By now you have probably heard of Pantone, the self-declared “world-renowned authority on color.” Along with creating a universal “language” of color used by many industries, particularly the fashion industry, they forecast color trends and declare an annual “Color of the Year.” They have a knack for vividly describing each color — I’ll provide a few examples below. Plus, they have done several collaborations with Sephora, like creating makeup sets based on that year’s chosen color, something I think is pretty cool. I have a Sephora + Pantone eyeshadow palette I bought a little while ago, and it has different shades of every color under the rainbow, each labeled with its corresponding Pantone color number. It also didn’t hurt that all of these shades came in a lovely rose gold case!
So how is this relevant to Donna Bella Designs? Well, like any company in the fashion industry, it is exrtremely beneficial to track the current trends, as well as predict future must-haves, so we can design handbags in colors and styles consumers are likely to buy. I myself am not a huge trend maniac (though I will cop to owning a pair of MC Hammer pants in the early 90’s), but I find it fascinating how a trend — whether it be a particular item, a brand, or a color — can be red-hot for some time, but then seemingly overnight, the clearance racks start overflowing with the same stuff. And what drives these trends anyway? I know the big-name (and big dollar) fashion designers can take some of the credit, but so many things influence what is “in” and what is “out,” including the economy, technology, and of course the all-important consumer.
Anyway, in addition to announcing its 2014 Color of the Year as Radiant Orchid, a “captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones,” Pantone recently published its Fashion Color Report for Spring 2014, which outlines the colors we will likely be seeing everywhere in the coming months. So I thought it would be fun to showcase some of our Donna Bella Designs handbags that come in these colors.
Our Zoey shouder bag is available in a hue like the Pantone color Sand, “a lightly toasted and amiable neutral.” It has a unique design with petal-like flaps that surround a flower appliqué. It is roomy enough for all the essentials (plus more), so you’ll never have to forget anything at home — just bring it all along!
One of our smaller bags is the Alida crossbody. But don’t let it’s size fool you — it has plenty of room and pockets galore for organization. It comes in a color similar to Dazzling Blue, a “scintillating,” not-boring shade that can add a fun splash of color to any ensemble.
The aptly-named Everywhere handbag is a dream for the on-the-go woman, with so many pockets inside and out. It is made of soft faux leather and has cool silver-tone hardware. One of the color options is like Hemlock, a “summery, ornamental green” that is perfect for spring but will transcend all seasons.
The beautiful Joyce satchel is a classic and versatile style that can be worn with anything — even in a color like Freesia, a “blazing yellow that is sure to illuminate wardrobes this season.” It is made of luxurious rhombus-embossed Nappa leather with light gold-tone hardware, and features a pretty purple satin lining. Carry the dual chain and leather straps, or use the included attachable shoulder strap to wear as a crossbody!
While there is still snow on the ground and a chill in the air, spring is just around the corner!
